Midnight Adventure

The following is an entry from Allora Haven through the Share the Chills competition. It is a fictional short story.

The chilly, Autumn breeze whistled through the silver leaves. The house’s flaky, white paint seemed to glow in the moonlight.

“Can we please go back now?” Amy whispered. “I don’t think we should have strayed so far from the car.”

“Where’s your sense of adventure?” Jeremy grinned.

“Probably in the car.” Amy grimaced. “Can’t we get arrested for trespassing?”

“This whole area is deserted.” Jeremy scoffed, taking hold of her hand. “No-one’s gonna find us here. Check it out, this house has a cellar.”

“What do they even use cellars for?” Amy couldn’t help but be interested.

“Only one way to find out.” His pace quickened.

“Wait.” Amy halted at the cellar’s gaping mouth. “This is a dumb idea. It’s too dark to even see anything.”

Jeremy rolled his eyes and dug a hand into his pocket, withdrawing his phone and waving it triumphantly.”We may be out of reception, but it’s still good for something.”

“Okay then.” Amy shrugged off her apprehension and followed the dim light into the darkness.

“Wow. This is the creepiest thing I’ve ever seen.” Jeremy announced, holding the light up higher.

“What is it?” Amy asked.

At that moment, the cellar doors slammed closed on top of her, knocking her unconscious.

Jeremy moved towards her, but found that his body felt heavy and weak. He fell to the ground. The last thing he heard before losing consciousness was the sound of a padlock, snapping shut.
